By building these tableau assemblages of objects with the only intention that they become photographs, Antonio’s pictures seem to ask the question to what extent there is a need for the image. Does the subject-object exist beyond the surface? Is his work playing with the idea of what a ‘picture’ actually is in rela-tionship to the object?
Inspired by notions of being confronted by a world of abundance and choices, ‘frictions’ between materials and objects that operate on different levels is a con-stant through his practice. His narratives tackle and celebrate the absurd. In his work, absurdity achieves a density that below the surface holds a profound realm of being.
